The 18th Mohammed VI International Karate Cup kicked off on Friday and will run until June 2 at the Mohammed V Sports Complex in Casablanca, according to MAP.

Organized by the Royal Moroccan Karate Federation and Associated Disciplines (FRMKDA), 60 countries are participating in the tournament. The 4th stage of the “Karate1 Premier League” features competitions among 384 karatekas in 12 different weight categories.

Director of this edition, Said Cherrat, told MAP, “This distinguished stage brings together champions with the highest scores from previous stages in Paris, Egypt, and Turkey, highlighting the promising participation of Moroccan karatekas at the start of this competition.”

In addition to the competition, organizers have arranged a tourism village showcasing Moroccan artisanal heritage.

Cherrat noted, “The Mohammed VI International Karate 1-Premier League is not just a sporting event, but an occasion to promote internationally an image of an open, dynamic, and modern Morocco.”

The Karate1 Premier League, under the auspices of the World Karate Federation (WKF), is recognized as the most prestigious karate tournament in the world, bringing together the best karate athletes in competitions of exceptional scale and quality.

The competition commenced in 2011. In the 2023 edition, over 400 athletes from 60 countries participated.

Morocco’s national karate team won four bronze medals in 2023.
